npr has recently added a new feature to their music section called 'project song'. the premise is that a musician is invited into their studio and given a photograph and a word as inspiration. they are then asked to write and record a song in 2 days. the first installment was released yesterday featuring prolific songwriter and leader of the band the magnetic fields, stephen merritt. the video is a great look into the creative process and the pressures of producing something in a short period of time.
